Alive

When tempted by sin and we give in we feel Alive.  That void we had in our soul is filled, but only for a short time because the pleasures of sin are fleeting. Heb 11:25 NIV   In my experience once fed, that craving comes back worse the next time.

The answer is found in Ephesians 2:1-7 NIV 1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.

Sin does not satisfy because it is part of my old life.  The new life in me battles with the old life and I cannot please two masters.

4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

God loved me and had mercy on me.  He made me "alive with Christ".  By His grace I have been saved.  Not only that, but as far as God is concerned I am already seated with Christ in the heavenly realms.  It's a done deal.  As if it already happened.

Why did he do this?  So that we might show it.

In this Thanksgiving Season are we showing the world the "incomparable riches" of God's grace or are we so wrapped up in our family and the big meal we're going to eat?  With the Christmas season already in full swing at the retail stores are we a light or are we just one of the crowd filling our desires with temporary things that will satisfy?

God Bless.
