How well do you know God? Originally posted on Monday, June 28, 2010 at 8:57am

My devotional time with Chrissie this morning asked that very queston. How many of us are so wrapped up in the trappings and wrappings of "Chirstianity" that we do not take the time to know God?

John 14:20 21 "Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him."

This was the verse supporting that point. How can one know God's commands unless he or she studies and gets to know God? When asking this question I was reminded of 2 Peter 1: 1-4

"1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: 2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our LORD.

3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. "

Vs 1 Peter is writting to all of us of faith. This is a faith that we have received from God. He gave it to us.

Vs 2 The "grace and peace" is contingent on our knowledge of God and Jesus.

Vs 3 He has "given us everything we need for life and godliness", and once again you will notice that what we need comes "through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness". It was not a mistake that he called us. It was not for our comfort that he called us, but for His Glory and because he is good. He has provided for all our needs, but we need to get to know him.

Vs 4. The knowledge of him makes us aware of God's promises. It is through these promises that we can "participate in His divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. "

God gave us faith. He has promises that will provide for all our needs and help us live the life he has called us to do for His glory. All we need to do is get to know Him and claim the promises He has for us.

Is your Christian walk up and down? Do you have a hard time living for Christ daily? Ask yourself, "How well do I really know God?"
