1 Corinthians 3:10-17

1 Corinthians 3:10-17
10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.

As a Christian, our foundation is Jesus Christ.  His life, word and commands are to be the way we live.   These are the gold, silver and costly stones.  When we chose our own way and do what we want, even if it means disobedience, we build with wood, hay and straw.

A judgement is coming by God for us.  It will not be one that decides heaven or hell, because Christ paid the penalty for our sin.  This will will be for reward.  Gold and silver are purified with fire and precious stones are not effected by it at all.  Wood, hay and straw are consumed by fire and the life we lived will have been for nothing.  Oh we will still be saved, but to enter heaven empty handed is not our goal. Matthew 6:19-20  Matthew 13:52

16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.

When we accepted Christ's payment for our sin the Holy Spirit came to live within us.  How often I forget that he indwells me.  What do I force the Holy Spirit to watch?  Do I exercise?  Watch what I eat?  I'm not sure exactly what it means by "God will destroy that person", but the thought comes to mind of how many people each year die because people abuse their bodies.  Take care of you self and treat you body like the sacred temple it is.

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
