Ephesians 6:1-9

Ephesians 6:1-9

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

Contrary to the belief of most kids, especially teens, parents have their children's best interest at heart.  Parents have the experience of having lived through growing up and survived.  Their experience can help one avoid some of the traps and pitfalls of growing up an help them avoid pain.  More importantly, this is a command of God.  Children are commanded to obey just because it is the right thing to do.

Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

Exasperate means to make angry or annoy.  Guide them as they grow, don't have a standard that is impossible to achieve.  Don't change the rules without giving them fair warning.  Don't tease them.

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.

We have bosses now as slavery in the US of A is illegal.  Serve you boss as if you were serving the Lord.  In fact you are serving the Lord because God gave you that job and your boss is God's servant for your good.

And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.

Are you the boss?  Remember who your ultimate boss is and he does not care about your title.  You are held to a higher standard and will give account for how you treat those under you.

God Bless.
